Interview with Phil Samphire, disability arts information
and advocacy worker. Age 34. Comes from Manchester.
What does your job involve?
It sounds really interesting.
Have you always worked in the arts?
No, like a lot of people, I was out of work for long spells
in the eighties. I did have various jobs - I was a stable
boy, a kitchen porter, even a toilet cleaner! Then I started
to get fed up of being turned down for decent jobs - I was
a disabled person and I had no qualifications - so I decided
to go to college.
What did you study?
So what did you do after
your degree?
Which aspects of your
job do you like the most?
What about the least enjoyable
aspects?
Any advice?
And do you look forward
to work every day?
