Interview with Phil Samphire, disability arts information
and advocacy worker. Age 34. Comes from Manchester.
What does your job involve?
It sounds really interesting.
Have you always worked in the arts?
What did you study?
So what did you do after
your degree?
Which aspects of your
job do you like the most?
What about the least enjoyable
aspects?
Any advice?
There are a lot of rewarding careers in the arts and you get
out of them what you put in. Go to a disability arts agency
like Full Circle for advice - there should be one in every
large city - there are support mechanisms to help you. However,
remember that lots of people want to work in the arts and
it is competitive so don't be afraid of knockbacks. If you're
thinking about arts administration in particular then make
sure you have the right knowledge for the job.
And do you look forward
to work every day?
