The excitement, the energy and the attitude
This includes arts like drama, dance, live art, mime and puppetry. You may also consider a career behind the scenes in areas like arts management, theatre, set and stage design and costume design.

How tough is it in the performing arts?
What work is there?
In drama you could work in commercial theatre, fringe theatre and children's theatre. And of course there is film, television and radio work. To act in theatre or television it's virtually essential to belong to Equity, the actor's union. Membership of Equity can only be gained once actors and stage managers acquire the required number of professional contracts. Those who have completed a recognised course at drama school tend to be in a more favourable position.

What about other careers in the theatre?
