Interview with Freia Turland, photographer. Age 25. Comes
from Cheltenham.
What does your job involve?
What's a normal day like?
Did you always want to be
a press photographer?
How did you get into the press?
Through work experience - an important part of my university
course. I managed to get my placement at the Gloucestershire
Echo, a daily evening paper, and I loved it. Later in my course,
for a project, I asked the paper if I could be part of their
team covering the National Hunt Festival in Cheltenham (a
three-day race meeting held annually) and they said 'yes'.
Anyway, they liked my work and offered me a job while I was
still at university. I ended up working for the Echo two days
a week and going back up to university for the other three
days.
Which aspects do you like
the most?
Anything you don't like?
What about the financial rewards?
Any advice for aspiring press
photographers?
Do you look forward to work
every day?
